📍 About the Project
In Morelia, in Michoacán, hundreds of children placed in orphanages suffer trauma and emotional distress from domestic violence. Unfortunately, Michoacán’s orphanages lack the means to help them process their experiences.

Our project will support 60 girls from 2 orphanages, offering therapeutic artistic activities through Photovoice workshops. These girls will develop resilience, rebuild confidence, master self-care skills, heal emotional wounds, and envision futures beyond their pasts.
❗ Why It Matters
According to the Mexican Senate, over 131,000 Mexican children live in orphanages due to domestic violence (Senate of the Republic). These children carry deep psychological scars from abuse, rejection, and neglect by former caregivers.

Research show artistic activities support trauma recovery, yet 50% of Michoacán's orphanages lack programming or trained facilitators.
đź’ˇ Our Solution
In partnership with Catako, a local cultural center in Morelia, we're launching a 12-month project using Photovoice methodology. Through guided photography workshops girls will learn self-protection strategies and how to redefine their worldview, envisioning new possibilities beyond violence.

The program combines artistic skill development, critical thinking exercises, women's rights education, and self-confidence building all to culminate in local exhibitions where the girls will have their voices heard and celebrated.

This project is more than healing. It's about helping girls move from survival to aspiration.
🔍 Diagnostic phase
The photos below come from an assessment that clearly showed how engaged and enthusiastic the children were about this activity.
